Air Belgium want to fly to the USA

Air Belgium want to fly to the USA and have already started eyeing up potential routes for later this year. The Belgian airline has plans to operate charter flights connecting the two countries before they start rolling out scheduled passenger services.

While the airline has not made it clear which cities in the USA it wants to fly to, the airline will almost certainly offer services from its airport hub in Brussels. Air Belgium will most likely want to target big cities in America, such as New York, Chicago and possibly some other big destinations on the West Coast. This will give their customers a direct flight to popular tourist destinations within the USA, as well as give them an opportunity to connect with other cities around the world.

Air Belgium finally land in Hong Kong

After being pushed back a number of times, Air Belgium finally flew its first flights from its airport hub in Brussels South Charleroi Airport (CRL) to Hong Kong International Airport (HKG). Air Belgium has had a number of different launch dates pushed back for various different reasons, the most recent of which was its launch date in April being postponed because the Russian government didn't approve the overfly rights in time for the launch.

Air Belgium CEO, Niky Terzakis, seems a little concerned that the continuous postponement of the Brussels—Hong Kong service has affected sales negatively. Terzakis says that sales are around 39% of bookings out of Hong Kong when they should be closer to 50 or 60%. Terzakis added that he still believes the company will break even within six months from now as bookings for Q32018 have picked up substantially.

Air Belgium prepare for launch

Russian authorities have granted Air Belgium trans-Siberian transit rights which will allow the airline to start flights between its hub, Brussels Charleroi and Hong Kong International. The Belgian start-up airline announced that its very first commercial service will take place on June 3rd 2018.

In a statement from the airline, it stated: "The company will offer two flights per week in June, followed by three per week from July onward and, finally, four per week from October onward."

Air Belgium's fleet currently consists of two Airbus A340-300s, however, according to CEO Niky Terzakis the airline will add an additional A340-300 jet by the end of June.

Air Belgium's inaurgural flight set to happen this April

Air Belgium has opened reservation for its inaugural flight, which will take place on 30 April 2018. The new carrier will operate a four-weekly service from Brussels South Charleroi to Hong Kong. The route will see the aircraft departing Brussels on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday at 2pm and arriving at 18:15. The launch of the low-cost services form the first part of Air Belgium’s plan to expand into the Chinese market. It hopes to add six destinations to mainland China later this year.

Speaking earlier this year when Air Belgium selected Brussels South as its base, the airport’s chief executive Jean-Jacques Cloquet said: “Being able to welcome a company such as Air Belgium on our apron allows us to switch to a new strategy and further strengthen our international position. “With the first direct long-distance flights to Asia, the Far East has never been closer.”
