In 2016, Cyprus Airways went bankrupt. In July of the same year, a new Cypriot airline, Charlie Airlines, bought the rights to use the trademark 'Cyprus Airlines' and now offers services under the Cyprus Airways name and brand.
While the new Cyprus Airways continue to offer international flights from Larnaca International Airport, many of the destinations it flies to have changed. Founded in 1947, Cyprus Airways was the flag carrier of Cyprus and operated from its main base at Larnaca International Airport until it declared itself bankrupt in 2015. Cyprus Airways used to fly to many destinations, including Amsterdam, Athens, Beirut, Frankfurt, Heraklion, Larnaca, London, Moscow, Munich, Paris, Rhodes Tel Aviv, Tel Aviv, Thessaloniki and Zurich. Other airlines that still serve these destinations are Cobalt Aero and Aegean Airlines.
In 2015, the airline shut down, however, S7 Airlines subsidiary, Charlie Airlines, won the rights to the Cyprus Airways trademark and now operates services from Larnaca International Airport under the Cyprus Airways name. The new Cyprus Airways offers some of the same routes that the old Cyprus Airways used to. In 2019, it was announced that Blue Air and Cyprus Airways will continue their codeshare partnership which was initially launched in December 2018. The agreement will extend connections from Larnaca to Athens, Thessaloniki and Heraklion.

Cyprus Airways connects with Germany
Cyprus Airways introduced Munich to its network on 5 May, one of two destinations in Germany to be added to the carrier’s route map this week, with Stuttgart services having been inaugurated four days earlier.
Cyprus Airways has upped its European presence by adding two German airports to its network from Larnaca(LCA) this week, namely Munich (MUC) and Stuttgart (STR). The latter destination was the first to be inaugurated, with the Cypriot airline introducing a weekly (Tuesdays) service on the 2,520-kilometre link from Larnaca on 1 May. Munich operations commenced four days later on 5 May, with the 2,338-kilometre sector to the Bavarian hub also seeing a weekly (Saturdays) rotation. Both routes are going into competition with other carriers. Stuttgart is already flown by Eurowings weekly, while Munich has a daily rotation with Lufthansa plus a weekly link courtesy of Condor. With these launches, it means that Cyprus Airways presently serves six destinations from Larnaca, with the two German destinations joining Athens, Beirut, St. Petersburg and Tel Aviv on the carrier’s route map. Prague, Verona and Zurich are poised to be added by the airline in the coming weeks.
